Speech-Language Pathologists will finally be able to enter into a contract as a private practitioner with Medicare effective July 1, 2009. This will be known as SLPPP (Speech-Language Pathologists in Private Practice).
Up until this time Speech-Language Pathologists in Private Practice were not able to participate in the Medicare Program or to treat Medicare beneficiaries and bill Medicare for their services. Speech-Language Pathologists, for the purposes of Medicare billing were limited to hospital outpatient departments, rehab agencies, or Comprehensive Outpatient Rehab Facilities (CORFs).
